Holiday Brewery Tour – Figs # 1

Each month, I focus a spotlight on breweries from a city, region, country but this month, I am throwing a change-up. There are quite a few big, burly beers that are described as having a fig like flavor to them. But oddly enough not a large amount of beers actually have Figs in them.

Now I am not a fan. Wouldn’t eat a raw or cooked fig or know if one is preferable to the other. But I would at least try a fig enhanced beer. So, this month, instead of the normal taster tray from one brewery, I will roll out (over three posts) a fig flavored taster tray from past and present.

We start, appropriately enough with Figueroa Mountain and their 4th Anniversary beer that is brewed in the style of an Abbey Quad. The base beer was then aged in oak barrels with figs. The finished beer will bear dark fruit aromas and caramel notes with yeast spiciness.

Beer # 2 is 2Xmas from New York’s Southern Tier. This version is a winter warmer with four varieties of malts plus orange peel, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, ginger plus the figs giving it a spice cake or mulled wine flavor profile.

That’s the start of Fig-cember tasting tray.

Beachwood 4

I know that I haven’t even posted about Beachwood’s L.A. Beer Week events but their anniversary party this year looks to be a mega tap list of goodies.
As seen from this screenshot, there is enough casks and aged rarities to keep one busy for days. Plus a new beer!

That is one month from now!

The 4th Dart

It’s anniversary time again at Tony’s Darts Away!

And that means beers aplenty both rare and hoppy.
Here are the initial details for those who like to plan.

Time to celebrate 4th anniversaries….

First is the one day event for Eagle Rock Brewery

“...lots of special beers on tap, including ALL of our previous anniversary releases and some super special casks. Aaaaand, of course, it wouldn’t be a proper celebration without having another beer to add to the family of anniversary beers (while they last). Come on out and taste White Rabbit! It’s our 4-year anniversary release so be here for it’s debut!

The deets? Admission is $20 and includes 4 beers (additional drink tickets will be available for purchase), an amazing time with some special beers, and a commemorative anniversary glass for you to take home, and a raffle ticket to get some Eagle Rock Brewery or Keep A Breast shwag. **A portion of the proceeds from the day will be donated to the Los Angeles Brewers Guild and Keep A Breast Foundation.

We’ll also have some GREAT food trucks at the brewery that day!”

…and don’t forget to spend one day, or how about a week! at Ladyface. They have their 4th as well!
