Normally, I would be posting more of these anniversary notices each month but the pace is starting to pick up. Yes, I know I keep saying that. Trying to make wishes come true.
All prelude to say that Surfridge is turning two an will have a special tap room only beer. Remember those?
If you missed the first go round, Burnin’ Daylight Brewery is re-releasing their 2nd Anniversary beer. According to the brewery, Burn 2 is a West Coast style IPA “hopped with Strata and Citra”.
Long Beach (specifically Bixby Knolls) is an L.A. beer hub and one of its members is turning 2. Now, there will not be a big ol’ party but there will be special can releases so check out the Ambitious Ales social media to stay in the loop.
Simmzy’s will be celebrating their 2nd Anniversary with (3) new brews including and taco pairings at their Burbank brewing location. They will have the obligatory “2nd Anniversary Hazy IPA” that is part of a take home 3-pack of their anniversary beer line-up in… crowlers. The festivities are on Friday, June 7 starting at 4pm. Mark Saturday, October 6th on your calendar as the sour and wild Cellador Ales celebrates their second birthday with not just one but possibly two anniversary beers.
The tasting room & outside patio will be open withe multiple pouring stations. Expect some fun and weird beers on tap and from their distinctively labeled bottles. Kogi BBQ will be there in the afternoon and Pacific Pizza Co. at night
It will be a cash only event and your first pour will include glassware (at additional cost). The first 250 people will receive an exclusive Anniversary glass.
Yes, there is a “big sportsball game” this weekend. Though that seems less fun when we ponder that the New England Trumpriots will probably win and SABInBev will try to seem cool and relevant with a thirty-second commercial.
Better, perhaps to head to DTLA for the Boomtown Brewing official anniversary party on Saturday, February 3rd. Where they will be better beer talked about and everyone having fun, not just one team’s fans.
The brewery has gone from their temporary cavernous room (now event space) to one of the coolest taprooms with a great mural outside and have recently added canning as well. Most importantly to me, Mic Czech. My personal favorite.
The brewery on the northern margins of the Arts District celebrates their paper anniversary with special beer releases, guest DJ’s, food vendors, burlesque dancers after 10:30 and a raffle for prizes.
See you there!
Indie Brewing will be doing their 2nd Anniversary thing with TWO very special beers being tapped. The first beer is a throwback as their, Superfood Saison will return (and in cans no less.) Also their newest New England Style double IPA, Sophomoric Juice will be available on draft (growler fills available). Special pecial glassware available only in the tasting room as well as “3 food vendors, 2 bands and a DJ, and a pop up market with everything from pins to hot sauce.”
Welcome to 2018! For L.A. Beer fans, it will be a busy first month to the year with many anniversaries and events already on the calendar, anchored by the L.A. Beer and Food Festival. But we will duck outside for this month’s A Book & A Beer and to Durham, North Carolina to visit some breweries from our computers.
~ e-visits to three breweries from Durham, North Carolina perhaps Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending, Clouds Brewing, Fullsteam Brewery or Ponysaurus Brewing Co.
~ special featured reviews of beers bought during one visit to Sunset Beer.
~ Heads-Up on Los Angeles Beer Events
~ Three suggested beers to buy this month. One light, one medium and one dark
~ A Book & A Beer reads The River Why
~ I will tap the Firkin and give my no holds barred opinion on the craft beer world.
Here are two events to get your January started in the Los Angeles craft beer world:
1) January 4th – Boomtown Brewery Tap Take Over at Harajuku Taproom
2) January 13th – Transplants Brewing 2nd Anniversary
Lucky Luke Brewing in Palmdale will start off December with their 2nd Anniversary on December 2nd. Replete with limited release beers and Commemorative Glassware.
If you have visited the northern members of the L.A. County Brewers Guild, this would be a great reason to make the drive.
