YCH and PBS 2024

I am usually wary of brand extensions but I do think that what Yakima Chief Hops does with their annual blend to benefit the Pink Boots Society fits into a brand extension slot but with benefits.

This year the blend features a harmony of Simcoe®, Mosaic®, Chinook, and Krush™.  That last one seems to be quite en vogue at the moment.

The other cool thing about the 2024 blend is that YCH “partnered with women-owned farms within its network of growers to assist in creating the blend. Jessica Riel of Double ‘R’ Farms, Reggie Brulotte of Brulotte Farms, and Erica Lorentz of Lakeside Ranches each hand-selected their favorite lots from this year’s harvest, which the YCH sensory team used to craft three compelling blends for the Pink Boots Society membership to vote on.”

A third cool thing is that YCH will donate $1 from each pound sold to the Pink Boots Society.

Review – Infinite Wishes 2024 from Smog City Brewing

Back to Smog City Brewing and their 2024 edition of Infinite Wishes, a barrel-aged stout, after a lager review detour.

The 2024 pours an inky black with a nice coffee foam head that dissipates in a bubbly fashion. For such a big ABV beer, this is not thick sludge but rather a sprightly beer. The predominant note is oak. Dark and roasty and far more dry than sweet. As it warms, a little chocolate pops through the wood but curiously not much bourbon coming through on this. Just perfect though for a spring day.

CCBA 2024

I don’t generally plan too far out in the future. When I hear a movie or TV show will premiere in 2024, my first thought is tell me a couple months out.

But, I fully understand that mega planners operate differently from me, so here is your first California Craft Brewers Summit heads-up…..

Jeppson’s Malört

Jeppson’s Malört.  A spirit that only a few people have heard of but has an outsize reputation.  Personally, have not had it and being honest, I will probably read Josh Noel’s book about it before I do. Noel has written extensively about beer and penned the book on Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout so I know his style will probably work well here too.  Only downside? We have to wait until 2024.
