Arts District spot in massive Aliso complex that had a Mumford sign for a hot minute might instead get Arrow Lodge Brewing. I say might because too many times, I have seen a liquor application sign posted and nothing happening.
So file this under, hopeful waiting because having Arrow Lodge closer than Covina would be good. Though it is a tough call as to what is worse finding parking in the Arts District or driving the parking lot that is the 210 freeway.
Fortuitously, Brandon from San Diego Beer News wrote a nice guide to Paso Robles and Atascadero breweries, check it HERE, just before my trip with Mom.
So now I am in the Central Coast drinking beer like a beer traveler!
First visit to Firestone’s main campus in two years and I got to try a flight of anniversary beers. 24 was my favorite.
First visit to Kilokilo Brewing just down the road from FW. Just had time for one beer, the award winning Milk Shaka POG IPA, it was heavy on the lactose and quite sweet. Bought a mixed four-pack of pale ale and IPA for further tasting.
It is gluten-free November! This is an area of brewing that is EVEN harder to do without off-flavors than regular brewing. So I am excited to see a new entrant in the field. Anyhoo, let’s get on to the review of the pale ale from Glutenberg…..
Anderson Valley Brewing has a link with Wild Turkey which allows them access to barrels consistently which is great since we live in a world where barrel brokers are needed because of high/high demand and lower supply. Which brings us to their Pinchy Jeek Barl, their autumnal pumpkin meets Wild Turkey ale. Check the video for my review:
The first of two pumpkin beer reviews starts with a stripped down basic version from Bootlegger’s in Fullerton, California. The website description touts the ingredient list: “Brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, molasses, brown sugar and real pumpkin juice to create this special beer”
Now let’s see what it tastes like……
There are some interesting ingredient items in this ode to the “Cuppa Joe” brewed by Helms Brewing of San Diego and more specifically Kearney Mesa. Highly roasted malts and coffee are not un-ordinary but black pepper, hops and Almond wood chips are not what I expected when I purchased the bottle. Let’s see what the beer tastes like…..
Mike Hess Brewing has reached the 4 year mark and to celebrate they did, surprise, an Imperial IPA which was dry hopped with Simcoe and Amarillo.
Hopefully the brewing went better than in year two.
On to the video to find out…..

And we start with Saison Savoureuse, a Saison aged in wine barrels with Brettanomyces and sage added.
