Holidays with Alosta Brewing

Wanna get your small batch/rare beer on and be festive? Well, from December 13th through Christmas Eve you can sample the 12 Beers of Christmas at Alosta Brewing Co.

They will be “releasing a different small batch beer each night, for 12 consecutive nights, culminating on Christmas eve. A beer will be on for that one night only, unless there is still some left at the end of the night. If this happens, we will put any and all remaining Christmas beers back on tap during the final night.”

Sounds like a fun way to celebrate.

Holiday Cocktails (with Beer)

Do you wanna up your holiday cocktail game? Well then this new Beer Lab at Dry River Brewing might be of assistance.

You will be using the following (3) beers to make some cocktails….
Lady Roja – Botanical Saison – Tart with a subtle wild side. Brewed with hibiscus, tamarind and a touch of California sea salt. Elegant and effervescent, with bright red hues and soft aromas of red fruit.

Yuzu Funky Saison – Saison brewed with yuzu citrus and jasmine, keg conditioned. Dry saison, with bright citrus notes complimented by deeper tropical notes from our house cultures.

Xibalba Sour Chocolate Stout – Brewed with raisins, dates, Mexican vanilla bean, cacao, chicory, Xibalba is a blend of several dark base beers, bright milk chocolate aromatics, supported by deeper dark stone fruit notes, and a tannic, dark chocolate finish.

I would head for the last because that is one of my favorites from Dry River.

Holiday Beer # 31 – # 306 from Troeg’s

Happy Christmas Eve! I hope you have had a joyous, if slightly hectic, holiday season and that you can’t wait to open the gifts under the tree. Here is the final holiday “advent”ish beer to either find or put on your nice (shopping) list for next year…..

Yes, Troeg’s has a more traditional Christmas beer but I went with the latest in their Scratch Series.

Holiday Beer # 30 – Christmas Ale from Abita

Our penultimate holiday ale comes from Abita (who will get more play tomorrow), this is a Louisiana Christmas Ale…

“Each year at the Abita Brewery we craft a special dark ale for the holiday season. The recipe changes each year so that Abita Christmas Ale is always the perfect gift. Its spicy character is excellent with traditional holiday foods such as gingerbread or spiced nuts.”

Featured Review – Anchor Our Special Ale (2013-2017)

Each year around this time, I bring up whatever cellared Anchor Christmas Ale’s that are left. This year, I have 2013-2017 to taste and give bite-sized reviews of…

2013
smells a bit papery. Some soy sauce hits off this one. Still has some spritz to it. Some spruce tips as well. Little bit salty to my taste.
2014
a slight chocolate aroma. A lighter soy sauce but still savory. Seems plainer than 2013. Less back-up flavors. Seems a little more substantial as well.
2015
not much aroma to my nose. A return of the pine and spruce notes. Not carbonated but not thick either. A bit of cola flavor. Closer to 13 than 14.
2016
chocolate and pine notes. Tending down I think, touch to more sour. Touch of cherry. A bit chewy.
2017
this year’s model. Little fruity to me. Good sparkle to it. A bit thin. Malt seems less pronounced.
