Next winter stop is in Eastern Oregon and Bend Brewing for their Sno’d In. A little winter malty and hop mix for the snow lovers.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 20 – Spencer Winter Warmer
For today’s holiday ale, we get a little bit of the flannel look from the only U.S. Trappist brewery, Spencer who bring us a honey spiced amber lager as their take on the Winter Warmer.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 19 – New Holland Cabin Fever
In an attempt to cover all the beer styles out there, let’s head to Michigan and New Holland Brewing for, “Cabin Fever is a roasty brown ale and a hearty, comforting companion for long, mind-bending winters.” Just don’t go to that cabin with Annie Wilkes.
Christmas Beer Review – Sierra Nevada Celebration 2019
Let’s dive into the second Christmas beer review and we head to another California standard, Celebration from Sierra Nevada. Filled to bursting with Cascade, Centennial and Chinook hops.
Lovely cascading pour. Nice dark red Christmas color. I would classify this more as a red ale rather than Fresh Hop IPA. Big hoppy Cascade hop bite. That lovely hop note really lingers on the palate with a mix of pine and citrus.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 18 – Wild Barrel Santa’s on the Juice
Santa can be on trend too. I am sure he enjoys a NE IPA with the elves and the fine people from Wild Barrel in San Marcos, California have that in mind.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 17 – Duclaw Bygone Snowfall
Duclaw goes the lighter road with their snowfall beer of yore, adding juniper and then aging their lager on oak chips. This Maryland brewery also has sent a limited amount of beer out to us in SoCal which is a great Christmas treat.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 16 – Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve
New Year and a new label for Rogue’s annual seasonal. This year the old school Oregon brewery brewed up a dark ale with candy cap mushrooms, a recipe sure to be divisive and having people curious about the taste.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 15 – Upslope Wild Christmas
We stick with plums for another day as we head to Colorado and Upslope Brewing Company for their Wild Christmas. The base beer is an “ale aged in Oak Barrels with our house sour culture and re-fermented on red plums” . It is the Q4 release of their Lee Hill Series.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 14 – Sierra Nevada Visions of Sugar Plums
When one thinks of Christmas and Sierra Nevada beer, you think Celebration their fresh hop winter seasonal. But dig a little deeper and you find a plum festooned 10%ABV beer as well.
Christmas Beer 2019 # 13 – New Glarus Snowshoe Amber
Amber ales are not normally seen and Irish Ambers even more rare but the famous New Glarus Brewing Co. has a Snowshoe for you. They describe the beer as, “brewed with a blend of American and German malts. We also infuse generous amounts of hops from Slovenia and the Great Pacific Northwest to add a special note of warmth for your winter evening’s enjoyment.
Expect this beer to be a beautiful copper-red, with a fruity ale body and a spiced hop finish.”
