Partners in Brewing

If you cast your mind back, you will remember that Southern Tier and Victory Brewing have combined forces under the Artisanal Brewing Ventures banner. Now the two breweries have announced plans run a R&D brewery and taproom together in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The innovation brewery will do both beers that are “specific to Charlotte and the Carolinas” and will also pour flagship brands such as Southern Tier’s Nu Skool IPA and Pumking along with Victory’s Golden Monkey and Prima Pils.

The facility will have a “25-barrel brewhouse capable of producing approximately 10,000 barrels annually. The facility will include a fermentation cellar, quality lab and packaging hall along with a beer garden and indoor/outdoor private event spaces.”

Defense against the Dark Beers – Baltic Thunder

Since I am not the best dark beer critic, I delegate to someone who really digs the dark side. Here is another quick review…

Surprising aroma of citrus…Medium head, beautiful mahogany color. Complex flavor profile, full caramel roastiness finishing in a medium bitter. Definitely bitter on the back end.

Paired with a meatball sandwich. Probably not the best choice for this beer. Would have been better with pastrami or pot roast.

2010 collaborations

I have heard through the grapevine of the interwebs that there are two planned collaboration brews coming up this year so far from Stone Brewing: one at the end of this month with 21st Amendment and Firestone Walker (Camino Un-Real), and another coming up in March, with Dogfish Head and Victory.

At this point, I need a website that tracks all of these projects and what there status is at any given point in time. In the past, you could easily keep up with the few “brewing get togethers” that happened but 2009 was the tipping point and it appears the floodgates have opened.

Here is what I would like to see…..
Brewers involved – where brewed – bottled or tap only – where available – name of beer.

It might also be cool to have a list of mythical collaborations that never came to be.
