Review – Bee’s Knees Imperial Sour from WeldWerks

I have had a Bee’s Knees cocktail but not a Bee’s Knees beer. That has changed when I recently sipped the WeldWerks Brewing Co. and Tip Top Cocktail collaboration.

Wow, this is super big on the honey. Almost like they dripped it in before sealing the can. Slick on the tongue. Not getting much in the way of gin botanicals which would be the yang to the honey yin. There is an undercurrent of lemon that helps bring this beer into balance a bit but could really use a third act of juniper here or amped up the sour.

Kith and Kin

You may have seen the little Tip Top RTD cans in finer beverafe shops but now they have “teamed up with five renowned breweries for a first-of-its-kind brewery collaboration series that reimagines classic cocktails through the lens of craft beer. Each release reimagines one of our signature serves – like the Bee’s Knees, Cosmopolitan, and Whiskey Sour – through the unique perspective of expert brewers, resulting in inventive beverages that honor tradition while pushing boundaries.”

Sign me up, because some cocktail beers are fantastic and even the not good ones are still fun to try.

Spirits Day – Not Plain

Canned cocktails either hew to the classic, your Old Fashioned, Martini or Margarita but newer destined to be classic cocktails have been under represented, but Tip Top in the teeny tiny cans is changing that.

Yes, they have an Old Fashioned but they have teamed with bartender and Attaboy Cocktail bar founder Sam Ross to re-create two of his famous drinks, the Paper Plane and the Penicillin.

Your fancier purveyors like Hi-Lo and Altadena Beverage might get them or you can order online.
