For each anniversary, Cellador Ales double ages a beer on stone fruit. The Year One beer (Seconds) had two sets of apricots. The Year Two beer (Tautology), was a mix of nectarines and apricots.
For the book name of Bibliophile they used Rose Diamond Nectarines and Le Grand Nectarines respectively. Each bottle comes with a tag that doubles as a book mark.
The beer is on sale today and to be tasted at their anniversary party this Saturday.
Featured 19.2 Review – SeaQuench from Dogfish Head
I thought I would kill three birds with one stone and get a Dogfish Head beer since I hadn’t had one in such a long time, and try SeaQuench, their popular seller for the first time, and get the 19.2oz can too.
The lime (from either peel, juice or different varietal) comes through in the aroma. That is immediately cut by a one-two punch of salt and then wheat. At first SeaQuench comes across as sour but with each progressive sip, it becomes less aggressive. It has a cocktail quality to it. Lime Rickey maybe.
I can’t quite wrap my head around why this is such a popular beer, not from a taste standpoint, because this is a nice American twisted Gose, but because of the salt. I think the American palate has tilted towards extremes. Sugary. Salty. Sour and even bitter to a certain extent but this mixes tart and salt. I do wonder if a brand extension is in the offing too.
As far as the larger format can, this is a perfect choice at 4.7%. This would be a great beach beer.

If money were no object, you would find a menagerie of Cascade beers in my beer ‘fridge. As it stands, I can only really look for the special beers and the above would be absolutely perfect for Thanksgiving. The apple and spice combo will really tie into that meal.
Sour + Marionberry + Lavender
This sounds like an intriguing combo of flavors from Deschutes. Lavender can be an overpowering aroma but I am not sure it is as powerful as a flavor component. Marionberries are great for sour, because they do not have the pucker that blackberries can have. Throw in that this is in cans and I am sold.
A Sour Saint
A month of two back, I had the St. Bernardus ABT 12 and it was solid as ever, now I learn that a sour version is on the way. I will have to research to see if this is just new to us or new in amount being made or sold but either way, I hope to see this on store shelves. Hopefully in a smaller format bottle.
Sunbather 3
Mosaic will be out in the sun as Angel City Brewery releases their third in the Sunbather sour/single-hop series. June 1st the 16oz, grapefruit colored cans of kettle-soured pale ale will be available.
Both of the previous sours have been quite good, so I recommend trying a 4-pack.
Or Another
When sour titans like Cascade and Bruery Terreux tag team on a beer with an Oregon fruit – marionberries and a California fruit – Meyer lemons, does that mean the resulting beer will be twice as sour?
And do you buy a bottle of the Cascade version and the Terreux version and blend them?
