Christmas beers are coming but let’s sample some of the diversity of beer styles this month, Sour-Spicy and Fiery.

~LIGHT
Ska Brewing/ Sour Apple Gose5.1% ABV
“The scent of sweet apple blossoms give way to honey and a lemony tartness from the Citra hops and souring. Tastes like you’re sipping on a crisp apple juice with a bright tartness that’s refreshing, not drying.”

~MEDIUM
SoLArc/ Sunset Cleanse6.4% ABV
“Hoppy Pale ale with lemon, Cayenne pepper, and ginger. Brewed in celebration of 6 years of Sunset Beer Co.”

~DARK
Firestone Walker/ Leo vs Ursus Inferos8.2% ABV
“Inferos is a rye imperial IPA that is fiery in color, hellacious in hoppiness and bursting with spicy rye goodness. Forged with 25 percent rye grain and loaded with more than four pounds of hops per barrel, Inferos is ultimately a big, lively beer that will keep the soul warm as summer transitions to fall.”

All of these beers can be found at Sunset Beer Co. (unless they got bought up real quick)

Sean Suggests for October 2017

This month, I didn’t choose a theme, I just made a quick scan of a beer list and chose the three that struck me either due to brewery or ingredients. I am a sucker for beers with tea.

~LIGHT
SoLArc/ Steve’s Clocks6% ABV
“Pale Ale brewed with Cardamom and Jasmine Green Tea.”

~MEDIUM
Captain Fatty’s/ The Blue IPA7.6% ABV
“The Blue was born from a required hop substitution when we ran out of Amarillo and had to use Columbus in the dry-hopping. A happy turn that resulted in a 99.1% Pure West Coast IPA.”

~DARK
High Water/ Sugaree Maple Pecan9.8% ABV
“Ale brewed with Vermont maple sugar, Bourbon barrel oak chips and pecan. Sugaree offers a big slice of flavors that you wish Grandma had put in her famous Thanksgiving pie. Sit back, relax and enjoy a wonderful bottle of liquid love. You will be transported back to times of holiday joy and family get togethers from the past. This is a special treat from us to you, to help relive some of those special memories or maybe help create some new ones.”

All of these beers can be found at Sunset Beer Co. (unless they got bought up real quick)

Featured Review – Magic Flute NE IPA from SoLArc

Sneaking in one more review before July gets completely away with a new canned offering from the wild and crazy crew at SoLArc.

Magic Flute is their gruit filtered take on the NE IPA. And it certainly looks the hazy part, orangecolored with a fruit juice look. This beer has a strange metallic aroma to it and the taste has some of that aspect too. The lemongrass comes on loud and strong which leads the bitterness to be low and underneath that spice. Some grain notes lurking too. Not sure that I am digging the label design kinda has a Pied Piper old-timey look with too vivid colors.
