NAGBW – Cerveceros

Next up in “News from the NAGBW” are my takeaways from a night talking about the SoCal Cerveceros.

First you should read the article that prompted the J-School discussion, HERE.

The most interesting point was brought up by Ricky Ray Rivera, founding member of the home brew club, now at Norwalk Brew House. Press and attention is good but too focused on the Latino aspect and not enough on the hone brewing can seem patronizing.

The six year old (around there) club started with seven members and is now over 250 with many having started breweries.

The networking is now important it seems. People have joined whose interests lie in food or other businesses.

Hops Up – Hopes Up

One of the breweries that was on my check- up list was Feathered Serpent. And I have bumped them up a notch on my “when this lockdown is over” list if they have connections with the SoCal Cerveceras. If you are in their delivery range, I suggest checking out this Pink Boots hopped collaboration.

Dos

The SoCal Cerveceros are back for numero DOS. The Latino focused homebrew club SoCal Cerveceros & Cerveceras is coming back “to Plaza De La Raza for the second installment of CYC FEST a homebrewed craft beer festival featuring over 30 Latino homebrewers, commercial breweries, a curated lineup of local food vendors, live music, DJs, art and artisan craft vendors.”

The festival is slated for Saturday Oct. 19, 2019 from 2PM-7PM. VIP includes 1 hour early entry at 1PM.

100% of ticket sales will be donated to both Plaza de la Raza and El Centro de Ayuda in an effort to help support their continued work. $25 Single Tickets Pre-Sale
$100 VIP 4Pack Tickets

Maltitude

More L.A. brewed beer is coming, Maltitude Brewing, winner of an Anchor Brewing brewing competition, have spun out of the SoCal Cerveceros.

Phil Limon and Sandra Toledo are the team behind the recently brewed Ruby Sun Saison – a Hibiscus Saison that is on tap at Anchor and will probably make the tap list when their brewery is up and running.

Updates when opening gets closer.

April Cerveceros

The SoCal Cerveceros will take over La Plaza de Cultura y Artes in late April with another gathering of their home brewing crew. The largest Latino brew club in the country and one that has been getting more attention not just in Los Angeles.

Plus proceeds from the ticket price benefit the Gumball Foundation and LA Plaza’s educational programs.  Drink beer and help a good cause.

SoCal Cerveceros

If you haven’t been to a homebrew club fest, then you need to add it to your bucket list. And speaking of, the SoCal Cerveceros, a Latino focused homebrew club will be presenting Dia de los Cerveceros y Cocineros: a homebrewed craft beer festival there will be 30 Latino homebrewers, plus food, art, DJ’s and more on Sunday, October 21st from 1pm-6pm at the Plaza De La Raza in Los Angeles.

Here is more beer information from the event: “Attendees can expect to taste a wide range of unique craft beer. Styles include an array of fan favorites from IPA, Hazy IPA, Hefeweizen, Lager, to Belgian Saison, Witbier and Golden Stout to name just a few. For drinkers looking to push their palate, there are some more off centered offerings including; mango habanero IPA, spicy tamarindo saison, café de olla stout, black saison coffee stout, and even a blueberry mojito IPA. For those who enjoy drinking cider, they have you covered too.”

The SoCal Cerveceros have partnered with Plaza de la Raza and El Centro de Ayuda and 100% of ticket sales will be donated.
