Persimmon-versary

Hard to believe it was only 2017 when Sage Plant Based Bistro expanded into brewing. Picking up a lot of “firsts” in the process . Echo Park’s first brewery. Women owned and brewed. Using local, organic ingredients including hops from their own farm.

Here is the brewery description of their 5 year anniversary beer, “we teamed up with our favorite partners Sow-A-Heart farm to make a saison loaded with fresh persimmons aged with Oak. With a caramel nose this beer is sweet and slightly tart from the persimmons with an oaky finish.”

Some British Oak

Tennents-WOA-11-2-oz-front-2013-1107

It is good to see more oak aged beers from Great Britain.  At least for now, until Scottish voters decide on their political fate.  And though this isn’t spelled in the 10th Doctor way, I would love to see how Tennent’s is treated by whisky oak.  Might add a whole new dimension.

Captain Sour

One of the many breweries that I wish I had more of is Captain Lawrence. And they have a barrel select series that I wish I could get a bottle from each release. Now they have cherry AND raspberry coming after 4 years of resting peacefully in oak.

poppaskull

What do you get when you combine the crazy of Dogfish Head and the crazy of Three Floyds?

You get Poppaskull which the label describes as “a collaborative brew between Dogfish Head and Three Floyds. It’s a kinda-sorta Belgian-esque style golden ale fermented with a touch of green cardamom and 35% aged in oak brand barrels.”
