Hop Culture Best New Brewery of 2022 # 1 – Mahalo Aleworks

Hop Culture did a round-up of best breweries in 2022 and it was a wide ranging list. This month, I will highlight three with the first being Mahalo Aleworks. This Maui brewery has a super cool train station style arrivals graphic for their beers, so let’s take a peek…

You can start with a traditional English Brown Ale or a Vienna Lagale. If you are in the mood for Belgian, they have a dry hop Saison or the more traditional Farmhouse Saison. Sours are their as well, Mango and Tropical last time I checked. Then to finish you can head for their Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Stout.

Maui meet Kalama

No, McMenamin’s is not opening a branch in Hawaii.  They are bringing a bit of Maui (the Pioneer Inn specifically) to Kalama.

Now Kalama is a drive-by to me.  My family lived in Portland the the grandparents were in Longview.  Kalama meant we were close to being let out of the car to have some ice milk with Grandpa and Grandma.

What is different is that this won’t be a remodel model that the McMenamin’s usually do.  This is from the ground up a 40-room hotel with a Hawaiian theme.  A rooftop bar with a view of the Columbia River plus brewing operations, pub, restaurant and bottle shop too.

I might even stop there now. Well, in 2017.

Canned Beer tasting event

The fall edition of the Beer Search Party tasting event is now on the calendar!!
Sunday, September 20th at 3pm. I will be pouring 4-5 canned beers from brewers like Big Sky, Caldera, Maui and others. Only 10 slots available (Oops only 7 spots, I just checked the e-vite). Come discover some new beers or old favorites. And see what this can ruckus is all about.

A beer I want to try, maybe you should too

I have heard some good things about this beer and I think this weekend I will have to give it a try.  One reason that I haven’t yet is that it is in cans.  I have this bias (slowly receding) against cans due to Pabst and Olympia.  The second is that I am not a big porter fan.  But some times you have to take a leap and try something new.
