Brass Monkey from Angel City Brewery is back with the 2023 edition of the malt liquor mimosa. The fruit this year is ruby red blood oranges. The brewery describes it as a “light citrus aromas which lead to a boozy, medium bodied beer that’s slightly sweet to start but finishes dry with a note orange zest…”
I know a fair bit about beer styles and I understand that labels will stretch definitions for marketing reasons but I am a bit confuzzled by this Sierra Nevada label that says both Pale Bock and Malt Liquor.
There is probably a flavor overlap and I am quite interested to try the beer but it seems to be sending a mixed message to me.

The garish colors and bold graphics are Colt 45’s brand extension into the vast and lucrative fruity malt liquor market.
All kidding aside, this looks to be the winner of the worst beer idea of 2011 and we are hardly out of the starting gate.
