Modern LA Times

On the same day that the sale of Golden Road was announced, off to the side, the Modern Times of San Diego made some noise of their own:

“Well, we weren’t planning to announce this quite yet, but for some reason today feels like the right day. In 2016, we’re planning to open a pilot brewery, restaurant, and specialty coffee shop in Los Angeles. Expect crazy one-off beers, decadent vegan food, & mind-blowing espressos, pour-overs, & cold brew.”

Unless the plans are already underway, 2016 seems ambitious. So look for more news in the coming months.

Indie Brewing

I did a profile of three on-the-way L.A. breweries for the latest Beer Paper LA that didn’t reference Hand Brewed, Arts District Brewing or Iron Triangle which are also in stages of development. At least, I knew about the existence of them though.

It was in a Brewyard Brewing newsletter that I learned of yet another brewery in progress, Indie Brewing.

So, head to their website and sign-up for their newsletter so you can be reminded automatically when these 4 entrepreneurs have their casual taproom spot ready for us LA craft beer fans.

Wirtshaus

I was checking out Daniel Drennon’s latest beer escapade and came across Wirtshaus in another section of the LA Weekly.

So LA is getting a German themed restaurant to compete with the Red Lion. I noticed that Gaffel was on the list of their beers as well. You might just see a review of this place in the coming months.

Steingarten LA

There is a new westside beer stop. Steingarten LA.

Check out what the UrbanDaddy blog introduced them as….”Introducing Steingarten, a bold new German hall of unusual meats, regal cocktails and strong European beers, opening Tuesday on Pico.”

Sounds a little medieval but any LA Beer Bar is a friend of mine. (not just FaceBook friends either.) They will also be showing up on the FoodGPS beer blast so you can get the beer scoop.

Here is the location and hours:
10543 W Pico Blvd. Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA, 90064
Mon – Sun: 11:00 am – 2:00 am

Food Carts + Craft Beer =

In my usual better late than never style, I ran across this interesting bit of news from the New School Beer Blog.

Portland already has Prost! which is a lovely German beer bar located right next to a food cart pod so this next evolution sounds promising. Maybe the LA area can try this too! Verdugo and Eagle Rock invite trucks in but if you don’t care for that particular truck that night then you are out of luck (plus the lines can get enormous). A group of carts would minimize both problems.
