Cheery and Cherry

Belgian brewery Boon has some cherries waiting for you.  Cherries that have been patiently waiting since 2020.  Here are the details for the Boon Millésime 2020.

It “is an “Oude Schaarbeekse Kriek”. In the summer of 2020, the cherries were harvested with which we made this delicate, traditional fruit beer based on Belgian Schaarbeek cherries and lambic. We had the fresh cherries fermented with lambic beer that had already aged for 18 months in wooden barrels. We used a total of 270 grams of cherries per litre. We then allowed the resulting cherry lambic to mature for another 6 months in oak casks. After this additional aging, we bottled the beer in these bottles on Oct. 19, 2021. The Boon Millésime is re-fermented in the bottle and can safely continue to age for several more years.”

A Vertical Cascade

If you want to fill your cellar with years of beer in one purchase then the latest news from Cascade Brewing will help you bulk out your collection. The Portland blendery is releasing a limited series of Vertical Reserve Box Sets. 100 four-packs is all that will be available and each will hold bottles of a single brand from the past four years’ releases: 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Each of these sets will set you back $100. But considering that many bottles are tucked into bar bottle lists or unavailable means it makes the deal more appealing.

Kriek was recently released and future releases will drop on the first Friday of each month. It may not be feasible for many to trek north for it but maybe this idea will permeate and other breweries may use this new type of variety pack.

Creek

On the heels of “OREgasmic” comes Creek. A dual meaning beer name in the Chatoe Rogue series that also includes Dirtoir Black Lager and Single Malt Ale.

“Creek” is a cherry beer (AKA Kriek). Montmercy cherries to be exact. The beer is dedicated to the creeks of Oregon and the really large creek, the Willamette that is on the eastern edge of the Rogue hopyard.

As with the other Chatoe beers, all ingredients are incredibly local and all Oregon. Including their own Revolution hop and Dare and Risk Malts.
