Southland Beer

Not one but two craft beer bottle shops are constructing their way to opening dates this fall. Craft Beer Cellar – Eagle Rock just finished a successful Indie-Go-Go crowdfunding campaign and Southland Beer has an ABC license pending for their Koreatown storefront near Beer Belly on Western Avenue.

Some 19 taps will grace the bar with the possibility of cask ales and even food too. There is the makings of a good little Western Ave. craft beer crawl.

New for the Beer Belly 1 Night Stands

As if the One Night Stands (and the videos that come with them) were not enough. Now Beer Belly is adding a little extra something to sweeten the deal…
“A Gift: We want to thank those of you who make it out to our One Night Stands. Like, REALLY thank you. Those of you who make it to 10 of the 12 events next year will receive a special thank you package. We don’t want to reveal the contents, or overhype what it is….but we think you’ll be pretty surprised.

How to Qualify: Come out to 10 out of 12 One Night Stands next year. We’ll set up a spot at the bar to take a picture to show that you were here. Go ahead and upload that picture to our Facebook album or email it to us at drink@beerbellyla.com”

A Belly-ful of ales from Ladyface

This doesn’t sound like a one night stand for Beer Belly. 12 Beers plus one cask ale! All from Agoura Hills and Ladyface Alehouse. Just look at this list……
2010 Blue-Belly Barleywine
Ladyface Weizenbock
Reyes Adobe Red Ale (Imp. red)
La Trappistine (Belgian dark strong ale w/ syrah grapes)
Derailleur Biere de Garde
Picture City Porter (nitro)
Chesebro IPA
Ladyface IPA
Trois Filles Tripel
Blind Ambition Abbey
La Blance Wit
La Blonde
BONUS CASK: La Trappistine w/ Joie de Vivre (dried fruit tea)

I will be getting the barleywine and the Joue de Vivre. But it will be a chance to try this year’s Derailleur and some nitro porter too.

BeerBelly

It is great to see on the Beer Belly Facebook page all of the progress to their opening. I just wish it would come sooner.

I have met Jimmy Han who is behind the venture and he is truly passionate about craft beer and he is bringing it to a part of town that doesn’t have a lot of options but is growing.

UPDATE: I visited on day 2 of Beer Belly being open and can report that the beer list is great. Bootlegger’s Plum Riot and Craftsman Citrus Saison and the food is not boring pub grub. Plus you can get a Fried Twinkie.

I heartily recommend visiting.
