Beer Dim Sum

Don’t be confused. This is not pairing craft beer with Chinese food. (That’s an idea for another day). No, this is a great beer tasting idea that the Belmont Station folks created. They rummaged around their excellent store and bier cafe, which you must visit. They pulled out some aged beers. What follows is a list that should blow your mind…

They named it Vintage Beer Dim Sum and each beer cost a different number of $1 tickets– from one to five tickets, depending on its rarity. Part of the proceeds went to charity.

This is a great idea. I am kicking myself that I did not think of it. You bought your tickets and the beer would come around. You could choose to use your ticket or tickets, or not. It wasn’t a tasting where you could feel cheated because you are the one choosing!

This is exactly how I am going to hold my next tasting event.

Prevale!

I recently received this e-mail….
“Special Beer Release Party for PREVALE coming this Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Laurelwood (NE 51 & Sandy location). Live music begins at 7 p.m. Please come anytime to support the purchase of this special brew and help spread the word. Distribution will eventually include Fred Meyer, New Seasons, Whole Foods and any store that sells fine craft beer!

Laurelwood has generously brewed and bottled a benefit beer appropriately named PREVALE Ale. Proceeds from the sale of PREVALE (sold in 22 oz bottles or by the case or on tap) will go to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and help in the fight against cancer…

because we will prevail!”

Widmer Brothers + charity

Expressions of brotherly love usually involve punching, wrestling, or some kind of potentially dangerous physical activity. Widmer Brothers Brewing Company is celebrating Brother’s Day (Tuesday, August 11) in a slightly more healthy way.

Their collection of sarcastic e-cards are a great way of conveying brotherly affection while helping a good cause. One dollar will be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters for each card sent before August 11. Widmer Brothers has pledged to raise $10,000 in an effort to recruit more volunteer Big Brothers.

“Our effort to support Big Brothers Big Sisters is a personal commitment,” Kurt Widmer said. “We know firsthand the value of strong role models and of course, the importance of brotherhood.”

So before that friendly sibling boxing match results in a pleasant trip to the emergency room, send your bro an e-card. And help give community kids an opportunity to experience the joy that can only come from getting matching casts with their brother.
