Featured Review – Akimbo from Cellador Ales

Here is the final featured review of January. Here in Los Angeles, there are breweries that get a special fruit delivery and add it to their beers. Stonefruit from Masumoto Farms, here is my review of what Cellador Ales did with their portion….

Pours a peachy color. Love the pouring and temp advice sticker. Of the three things listed on the label. None really pop out at me. There is a slight Chardonnay buttery note but the Masumoto peaches and dry hopped Nelson Sauvin isn’t popping here. It is tart for sure but then folds into softness at the end. Some slight peach pit aroma but very subtle to my nose. As it warms up a bit peach flesh does start asserting itself more. Akimbo would not be a top pick of the Cellador starting line-up.

1st Visit – Cellador Ales

Take the Roscoe exit of the 405 (N or S), drive past the ????-A-rita plant that also “brews” Bud and you will be close to Cellador Ales helmed by the gracious Kevin and Sara Osborne.

I posted earlier this month about their soft opening hours every other weekend and I will talk more of their beers over on Food GPS but here are some photos from my 1st Visit to their barrel accented tap room…

Thanksgiving Beer Review – Caute from Cellador

Our final review of beers with an eye towards pairing with the traditional Thanksgiving meal comes to us from L.A. newcomer Cellador Ales. Caute is aged in red wine barrels and dry hopped with Saaz hops.

Caute pours a hazy light orange color. Quite a bit of accumulated acidity here. You don’t notice it at first but as yout take each additional sip it shows up. Red wine on the nose but it devolves into a weird almost but not quite to butter taste. Some citrus and tannins in the background. Not really digging it.

But would it work with turkey and stuffing? It just might. It is potent enough and the tannins are far enough in the background to make this work especially if cranberry sauce were around. This could be one of those beers that is better with food around it.

CelLAdor Emerges

capture
The cellar door is not yet open on their tasting room but the first bottle has been released and Cellador Ales of North Hills has come out swinging.

The premiered and teased beers over the weekend of the 8th and 9th, first their ++Good Mosaic A wild Sour hoppy ale, which is also available in bottles that have a super cool arrowhead artwork and logo, at Craft Beer Cellar in Eagle Rock. The future release will be “Palimpsest Pinot Noir, a mixed fermentation Biere de Garde inspired ale.”

The ++Good Mosaic was a pleasingly tart beer with a bright yellow color. Some Mosaic hops came through but this is first and foremost a fairly non-complex beer. A good introductory beer and will serve as a baseline for whats to come.
