Double Dutch

I spend quite a bit of words on the fact that many styles seem to have gone down in trajectory. Another one to add to the list are sour stouts or sour with chocolate. Cascade Brewing is adding Dutch cocoa powder back into the mix along with vanilla bean for an intriguing combo with a sour double porter.

Halloween – Primordial

Now if this doesn’t scream fall holiday beer then nothing else will. Sour Red Ale fits right in with Halloween, the spices and cherry would nicely accent a Thanksgiving meal and that bourbon barrel aging would make for a snifter to lift while watching the snow (or watching the snow on TV like Angelenos have to).

Or you could ask for this as a Christmas gift. Give the blending gift of Cascade Sours.

Peach Smoke

A little smoked beer goes a long way with me and that seems to be the general feeling because Bambergian beers are not conspicuous on shelves.

But the addition of peaches and the sour twist that Cascade will undoubtedly impart calls to mind less smoke and more like grilled peaches.

a little sourness

As great as the new tap room is at the Bruery’s brewery, I miss picking up beers at Provisions but now there is an excuse to return….
“SOUR WEEK!!!! Running from next Monday, August 13th and lasting until Sunday, August 19th, we will be featuring daily flights of very rare and delicious sour ales. Cantillon, Cascade, Lost Abbey and The Bruery, just to name a few of the amazing breweries that we have lined up. Be sure to follow us on facebook, twitter and instagram to find out what is being released each day!

Can’t wait? Come on in today and pick up a bottle of The Bruery’s Sans Pagaie, a sour blonde aged in wine barrels with cherries or Otiose, a sour brown ale aged on guava. Both are $20 for a 750ml bottle and will age gracefully for several years. We also have a selection of sour ales from Belgium, Switzerland, Norway and beyond, so get in the Olympic spirit and try them all!”

This will be an excellent chance to try those great Cascade beers and some classics from Cantillon and compare them to the Bruery offerings.

Hop Candy

If you are still looking for something to stick into the stocking of your beek geek friends this Christmas (oh and if you are near Belmont Station in Portland), grab some hard candy.

Oh, it’s made with hops. Bitter and sweet and tasting of Fuggles or Cascade hops.

I googled and bing’d the heck out of the interwebs but could find no company that manufactures them or any photos. All I know is that they exist, like the Yeti.
