Graffiti 2

Graffiti, the Artist Series DIPA from Boomtown Brewery in DTLA returns in “Purple Plush” or “Guac in the Park Green.”

It is a “…double dry hopped Hazy DIPA brewed with Galaxy, Cryo Citra & El Dorado hops. Orange and mango on the nose with flavors of guava, mango and resin.”

Overgrown

Boomtown Brewery has new Artist Series hoppy beer…

“Overgrowth Hazy DIPA is 8.2% brewed with American Mosaic & New Zealand Motueka hops. Aromas of Clementine, Papaya & Strawberries and jungle-like flavors of Apricot, Papaya & Mango.”

The artist is “Christina Chi is LA based working in animation production. Her art is influenced by playful chunky shapes and saturated colors, a love for silly creatures, brand mascots, old comic strips. Overgrowth was inspired by an innate desire to explore a world filled with little critters. “This is how I imagine a fantasy world would look like if I were four inches tall!”

French Belle

La Belle Étoile which translates to “The Beautiful Star” is the next Boomtown Artist Series Hazy DIPA.

Per the brewery, “This lovely brew is 8.4% brewed with Galaxy, Motueka, Citra, giving way to flavors of Nectarine, Tangerine, Peach & Melon, with a creamy full bodied mouth feel that gives us an intriguing vanilla vibe.”

This bright night sky blue label was designed by Caroline Gaoua-Hawkins, a French Industrial and Graphic designer.

You “Can” Recycle

One side effect of buying pretty much nothing but 4-packs is that you create quite the colorful collection of snap-tight plastic can holders. Maybe you have been recycling them but another way to help the green new deal is to return them to a brewery. Boomtown recently messaged how they would take them and I have seen that Common Space has a collection box too. Call or message first for other breweries but let’s all pitch in.

Delighted

Boomtown Brewing has a Spooky Season release! The next installment in their artist series, is Devil’s Delight. Here is the info: “This Hazy DIPA design was created by Keenan Shur (@not.shur), who brought an old-school graffitied twist on everything creepy to house flavors of Orange Marmalade, Honeydew, and Herbal Tea.”

The devil does look delighted on the label.

Marine Layer

Considering the bit of rain that SoCal received, this new Boomtown beer is right on Time. Marine Layer Hazy IPA is a new can release with a hop hit comprised of 7% brewed with Motueka, Ekuanot & 007 Hops for bright flavors of Peach, Watermelon & Kiwi.

Cinco

This damn virus has stolen St. Patrick’s Day from us and now unless you are daring with your life (I.E. Georgia or Tennessee), Cinco de Mayo will go by without the typical fanfare.

I have posted many a time about how I spend those nights safe at home away from packed bars and packed police checkpoints but I thought I would give three recommendations for tomorrow’s Cinco de Solo.

Stone Buenaveza Salt & Lime Lager is a great place to start. Light and refreshing and with enough citrus to make it a fun way to start the night.

Boomtown Bad Hombre is a Mexican Lager with a spicy kick from Hallertauer hops.

Los Angeles Ale Works Dead Cowboy – labeled as a rustic red lager. This amber beer uses puffed rice.

Sitting on the Dock of Boomtown

Beer buying is going to be more of a clandestine affair as dock sales and quick curbside service become the norm and one place that can be added to that grab and go (see how many of these same terms can I dig up) list is Boomtown that has a new hazy, named after the iconic L.A. landmark as well as a bitter named Proper Minger. Current hours are 10am to 7pm and I know this warning is in danger of being overplayed but do not go if sick.

PREF Designed

I am a sucker for a well designed label and when you get artists to do the design it is value added to me.  Boomtown has a new hazy DIPA coming featuring the stylings of British Artist PREF. Not being a graffiti aficionado it was interesting to learn that his “…3D text creates amalgamations of quippy sayings, often placing one word inside of another to give a piece multiple perspectives.” I wonder if the saying will be a hop pun.

Boomtown 4

4 years young overall and 2 in their new, expansive and artfully decorated taproom, Boomtown will be breaking out some special beers to look for….

The special beer releases:

new Anniversary Ale (Made with Pear, Meadowfoam Honey & Vanilla Bean 5.6%)

Single Barrel Imperial Stout (Aged 2.5 Years 12.5%)

Hazy IPA (Made with Galaxy, Mosaic, Motueka Hops 7%)

a collaboration with Dry River Brewing (Grand Cru Wheat Beer 9.3%).
