Review – Skaze Race from Alvarado Street

For the first review of July, lets dive into thiols. 2X thiols per the label from Alvarado Street’s Skaze Race.

Here is the description from their website, “This thrilling SKAZE is double dry hopped and thiol boosted for maximum juicy radness. Select lots of Mosaic, Nelson, Citra Cryo and Cryo Pop are teeming with tropical hop oils and potent thiols. A blast of tangerine and pineapple blasts you off a wave of gooseberry before you splash down in an  invgorating spray of passionfruit and blueberry- leaving a hint of coconut candy in your wake.”

I certainly get that big passion fruit aroma which seems to be a thiol hallmark. The beer pours a murky yellow color, almost golden. The first flavor note I get is blueberry. I also get a big orange creamsicle hit as this beer is super pillowy soft. At the end, I get a medium strong banana note which is odd but works with the other fruit flavors.

Review – No Vacancy West Coast IPA from Firestone Walker and Alvarado Street

This is the official beer for the 2023 Firestone Walker Invitational. Alvarado Street is the dance partner and the beer is out in the wild already so those who did not get tickets can enjoy a piece of the festival.

This westie pours a really light yellow. Typical for Firestone Walker it is a fairly subdued ABV which is good. Light pine and orange peel on the nose of this lightly bitter beer. Tastes close to sessionable to me but others not as hop assaulted might find it more bitter. Super well-made, bright and simple down the middle IPA. This will really work well in the sunny Paso Robles June at festival time as well as summer anywhere else too.

1% Party

I am reduced to talking about events far, far later in the year, knowing that those are probably OK, and here is a really good one…

It may be a small invite list but those are some fine outside if Los Angeles breweries, so I recommend marking this Smog City event down on your Aftermath calendar.
