I know that I recently posted about anniversaries and the abundance of them and here I am again but I have a soft spot in my heart for ten year marks. That is a milestone and Pocock Brewing and their rooster have reached that mark in Santa Clarita and will be throwing a “Hen Do” (see what I did there).
One of the most surprising craft beer success stories is that of Broken Skull, the collaboration between El Segundo Brewing and the famous wrestler Steve Austin that now includes an IPA, a DIPA and a lager.
Yesterday they released the 10th anniversary of Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Beer brand with a new limited-release 10th Anniversary IPA.
The brewery states that the new IPA was “brewed with a new blend of hops and packed with bright citrus, tropical fruit, and a punch of West Coast bitterness, this commemorative release honors where it all started while looking toward what’s next.”
In this time of craft brewery constriction, it is heartening when a brewery celebrates a double-digit anniversary and so kudos to San Fernando Brewing Co. who will be celebrating their 10th anniversary with a whole week of fun, highlighted by an anniversary beer and a re-release of a fan favorite, Redrum.
HopSaint Brewing and their now two locations in Torrance will be celebrating double digits. On June 29 you can be there for the festivities and to sample their 10 year anniversary west coast IPA.
I posted last month about a quick run to Windsor Homebrew Supply and today, happily, I have some information on their 10th anniversary party.
They have four truly special beers being readied for the June 13th event at both of their two locations including:
3 Fonteinen Amforen Lambik – Lambic aged in two different amphoras. An amphora being an ancient Greek style two-handled pot with a neck narrower than the body.
Monkish Brewing will be doing a special Hazy DIPA on draft and in cans.
Lastly but not leastly, Side Project will have bottles of an Imperial Stout and a barleywine both single barrel aged. The first in O.W.K. barrels and the latter in M.J.K. barrels.
Ventura is blessed with many good breweries and one of their leading lights, Topa Topa Brewing has reached the 10 year mark. If you haven’ visited their Colt Street Campus, their big party might be the time to do it…..
The ten is for The Heights Deli, a lovely beer spot where I can spend tons of money. They have spots in Lincoln Heights and also Glassell Park. The GP spot has the same great sandwiches as LH but has a smaller but slightly different beer selection but both are awesome spots.
Everywhere Beer did a special IPA for them and it pours a light yellow. The aroma is light and a bit on the catty side. At 6.8% abv, it is a lighter IPA but not by much. Nice bit of carbonation here. More woodsy and dank than anything.
Boomtown Brewing has reached double digits which is deserving of a three day blowout, I think. Over my birthday weekend (February 21st to 23rd obviously) there will be all the fun that their DTLA space can handle.
There will be a look-alike contest, DJ’s, so many food trucks and INFMS Hip Hop rounding it out. Plus, of course, plenty of beer as well.
I received the GABF winning ciders pack from 2 Towns Ciderhouse and it is time to open up the 10th Anniversary Cider to review.
Six different apples make up this 10th Anniversary cider and except for McIntosh the rest are all deeper apple cuts like Newtown Pippin, Orleans Reinette, Ashmead’s Kernel, Golden Russet and Cox’s Orange Pippin.
It pours a light yellow in the glass with lovely little bubbles climbing upward. It is a bit of a green apple aroma to it. Quite sparkly mouthfeel to it. There is a bit of tartness to this which I like. It has a bit of candy apple tart.
I like it over the Cellar Series one because of the that green apple swirl.
