B United with Cans

Those who venture past the IPA section of the cooler, past ciders and meads all the way to the international section might have noticed a surprise, Tipopils from Birrificio Italiano in 12oz cans. (Which I have a can of in my ‘fridge)

With an eye towards just-in-time inventory an East Coast company, B. United is bringing canned foreign beers to market.

Tipopils and Schlenkerla Helles were first but coming later will be Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted, Awà Pale Ale from Italy’s Almond ’22 and Hofstettner Original Hochzeitsbier von 1810 an Oktoberfestbier.

Review – BFD from Sierra Nevada

There are more of the “stovepipe” cans out on shelves and one that I have recently tasted is from the venerable Sierra Nevada, BFD. Is it a big deal?

Pours a light yellow and oh so clear. Straightforward and simple. Lightly dusted with bitterness. Aroma is very muted. I am reaching when I say a sweet bready note. Very lip smacking. Light pineapple note to it. Kings Hawaiian roll? If you are watching an NFL Draft or the Freakin’ Pelicans, this is a beer you can enjoy without worry about having had too many.

Alla-Can-ash

Allagash Brewing is dipping into the can side of #independent beer and though I would have placed a wager that Allagash White would have been the beer of choice, instead they have gone with their Hoppy Table Beer.

For those who haven’t had the HTB in a while, here is the hopping breakdown:

“Hoppy Table Beer is hopped with Chinook, Cascade, Comet, and Azacca hops, then dry hopped with more Comet and Azacca.”

Dough

Question. Is a doughnut beer a sub-set of pastry stouts and if so, are crullers far behind.

All Dunkin aside, this new can from Almanac might be of real interest if it is made with malt from their neighbor, Admiral Maltings. And coffee, can’t go wrong there.

Featured Review – Public House Saison from Angel City

The final Angel City review strays from wax to 16oz cans with their new-ish Public House Saison…

Public House is not hazy but not clear either. More opaque. Really nice multi-faceted beer. Starts with a big Belgian (hefe?) aroma then slides into a hopped Pilsner stage before returning to a Saison with a bite of lemon verbena notes and a touch of bubblegum. The hop hit is there and then cedes the stage. Well done.

Cans for Bernie

I was a bit floored when I saw that Rodenbach had gone to putting some of their beer into cans so the news that St. Bernardus was packaging their Wit into 12oz containers didn’t have the same surprise.

Hopefully, the Belgian wit cans will be in supply. Still have not seen Rodenbach cans in the buying wild as of yet.

1 Off Shot

Offshoot Beer, the, well, offshoot of The Bruery is weeks away from hitting the one year mark and will be honoring that passage of time with, you guessed it, a 16oz IPA. In this instance a double named One. (or 1).

In the past 365, they have created quite a few cool labels and excellent beers as well as release a full year-round IPA, Relax. Next year will probably be bringing more hops and maybe more distribution for those who do not buy online. (That would be me.)

Compote Yourself

Usually the Mikkeller and Evil Twin beers are a bit out of my price range but for rhubarb, I will make an exception if I find it in the cooler. Rhubarb pie is one of my favorites and this beer had me thinking about having some pie and soon.

ERB 2 New

Eagle Rock Brewery is always moving and now they have two new cans coming out on March 20th.
