16oz Human

Now I don’t agree with the 16oz cans. Would have gone with the SixPoint style skinny cans. But the fact that a 14 month aged Willett Bourbon barrel collaboration is in cans at all, is great. Now let me go look up Urban Roots Beer of Sacramento to see what they do that intrigued Three Weavers to brew with them.

Going National

Looks like Mikkeller is moving towards music that I like as the above happy beer tweet shows.

In this iTunes singles world, I have a variety of one song wonders but The National have more than a few in my rotation. I will have to keep an eye out at the DTLA Mikkeller for these cans. Then I can Sleep Well Beast.

Gris Wit

There have been a trickle of Belgian beers in can, add to that Grisette Blanche from Brasserie St-Feuillien.

Labeled as an organic White Beer, the brewery describes is Belgian Wit as “light character, gentle flavor and aroma. It is therefore very refreshing in the summer. However, it remains a full-bodied, savory beer offering lots of contrast. Its head is typical of wheat beers—creamy and compact—with an opaque, hazy appearance.”

I am still trying to figure out why the cans are only 11.2oz when everything in America seems geared to 16 or 19.1oz but I will be looking for this beer.

Rose, cider & hops

I haven’t been sold on the mix of cider and hops. Maybe I just haven’t had the right one for me. But this summer, Tin City may have the answer…

That answer is blending cider with rose AND hops. If I can find a can, I will see if the Paso Robles cider house has cracked the code.

Medusa

If you have visited Boomtown Brewery then you have seen the art work of mural artist Richard Arthur. He designed both the Roxy Musicand David Bowie murals at the entrance.

Now Arthur’s label art will grace a new Boomtown beer, Medusa. On the 23rd you will be able to taste the hazy IPA on draft and in a can while Arthur creates live art. Also at the taproom will be an art gallery and music all day.

The artistry on and in cans is really setting L.A. apart from other brewing towns.

Mischief Managed

The Bruery, now with their IPA Offshoot canning experience, is dipping a toe into adding their Mischief beer into cans as well. Seems like a good starting point since it is a well known name and it is hoppy. Customers seem to be thinking that if it is a 16oz can that it is hoppy at least if not hazy. I will be checking the price point to see what they are thinking the market will bear.

Review – Sunbather # 3 (Mosaic)

I returned home from Paso Robles in time to find the latest Sunbather, # 3 on my step.

Here is my review of this new-ish Angel City kettle sour…

# 3 is briefly tart, then the hops stride in and then quickly the light malt makes an entrance. This series has been good at each turn. The dark yellow hues beer shifts flavors fast from lemon to wheat. Glad it is a 16oz can because this goes quick. I don’t get tropical and floral but I really like the hoppy aroma and lemon.
