Yes, zombies are back with 28 Years Later and yes, Ireland is back on this blog again with Slack Jaw part of the Weep series of books and other writings about a zombie situation set of the coast of Galway.

It is written by Eoin Brady and follows boat pilot Samantha and her girlfriend Aoife as they barely escape the start of a zombie attack in Galway and make it to the Aran Islands and Aoife’s family, only to find that they have not escaped at all.
Brady has paced this book well, you have to keep it moving and from attack to introspection and back again. It was fun reading about Galway after having just been there and imagining how I might have escaped (or not). I also appreciated the characters having to push and pull at each other towards safety. I know that in real life, even the most committed partners will not listen and go their own way.
The book does tread back and forth a bit much. I almost would have preferred a slimmer book centered on Galway only and then one focused on the island and how it copes but overall a cracking read.
Stone Brewing recently released, Zombie Love Potion which is described thusly, “Pomegranate, with their blood-red juices, are known in Greek mythology as the fruit of the dead. We’d like to think the undead are big fans too. Traditionally brewed around Valentine’s Day at Stone brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station, we thought the imperial version of this decadent creation would be just as perfect for a spookier time of year. Chocolate adds richness to this imperial porter, balanced nicely by the fruity notes of pomegranate. Even zombies deserve a little love!”
That would work or you could find yourself a smoothie sour in the shade of red or if you want to go classic, shell out for a true Belgian Flanders Red.
